On May 18 at 11:39 a.m., the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two-vehicle crash on Route 71 at County Highway 1050E in Granville Township. A vehicle driven by Linda J. DeMattia, 66, of Hennepin was attempting to turn left off of Route 71 onto 1050E. A vehicle driven by Robert M. Vargas, 33, of Toluca struck DeMattia’s vehicle as she was turning. Vargas left the scene of the crash and was located a short time later in Hennepin. Vargas was charged with driving suspended, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, leaving the scene of an accident with vehicle damage, improper overtaking on the left, and a county ordinance of unlawful possession of cannabis less than 10 grams. Vargas was released on a notice to appear and given a Putnam County court date. There were no injuries caused due to the crash.
On May 10 at 9:48 p.m., the Putnam County Sheriff's Office responded to a single-vehicle crash on North Division Extension in Granville Township. The driver, Andrew R. Delafont, 21, of Spring Valley was charged with improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. A passenger in the vehicle, Megan R. Zorgdrager, 18, of LaSalle was charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. Both Delafont and Zorgdrager were transported to St. Margaret’s Hospital by Putnam County EMS. Additional charges may be forthcoming against Delafont pending the results of submitted toxicology samples. Both subjects were released on a notice to appear and given a Putnam County court date.
