OTTAWA — The Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra has announced the winners of the 2020 Young Performers Competition held at Ottawa Township High School Auditorium on Jan. 4.
The winner of the junior division was Nora Maier, performing Fauré’s "Pie Jesu." She is the daughter of Brandi Anderson-Maier and Michael Maier of Peru, and an eighth-grader at Parkside School. Her voice instructor is Jenilyn Roether.
The winner of the senior division was Emma Anderson, performing Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto, first movement. She is a senior at LaSalle-Peru High School, and the daughter of Todd and Doreen Anderson of Oglesby. Her trumpet instructor is Dave Peterson.
Winners in both divisions will be featured soloists with the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at the Ottawa Township High School Auditorium. They will also perform with the IVSO at two educational school concerts on Feb. 21 at Ottawa High School.
The runners-up and honorable mentions will be featured in an honors recital at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at the Westclox Fine Arts Factory, 408 Fifth St. in Peru.
