The Putnam County High School girls varsity volleyball team opened the season against Wethersfield, falling 23-25 and 22-25, with the junior varsity also recording a loss.
Savanah Tucker led the team with 9 digs followed by Emma Edens with 8. Morgan Hundley recorded 6 assists and Gabby Smith had 5. Leading with attacks was Avery Lamis with 4 and Olivia Lamis and Sophia Harris with 3 apiece. Hundley and Avery Lamis both tied with 4 service points each.
The Lady Panthers then headed to Galva to record their first win, 25-20, 25-20. Avery Lamis led the Lady Panthers in service points with 8, 5 being aces, with Tucker recording 7.
Hundley led with 4 kills followed by Avery Lamis with 3. Smith recorded 5 assists and Hundley had 4. Tucker and Avery Lamis tied with 5 digs, and McKenna Solomon led the team with 3 blocks followed by Caitlyn Cioni with 1 and Morgan Hundley with 1.
The girls headed to Somonauk, playing four matches, splitting with Somonauk 25-23 and 22-25, losing to Seneca 7-25 and 13-25, and winning over Leland and HBR 25-25, 26-24, and 25-11, 25-20 with a final record in the tournament 2-1-1, taking second place.
Hundley led the Lady Panthers with 25 service points on the day, with 7 of those for aces, followed by Avery Lamis with 19. Cioni and Avery Lamis led with kills, putting away 11 apiece, with Harris recording 10 and Solomon and Hundley both chipping in 9 apiece. Hundley put in 34 assists and Smith recorded 19 on the day. Olivia Lamis led the team in digs recording 36, with Hundley contributing 18. Solomon led the team in blocks with 5.
The girls returned home to face St. Bede and fell in a tough loss, 24-26, 21-25. Hundley led the team in service points (8), aces (2), assists (9) and digs (9). Harris, Hundley and Avery Lamis all recorded 4 kills apiece.
