MCNABB — Putnam County golfers Ian Roach and Ben Cyr both advanced to the Oregon Class 1A Sectional on Oct. 8 from the Putnam County Class 1A Regional held on their home course, Edgewood Golf Course, on Oct. 2.
Roach shot a round of 75 to tie for second place with Riverdale’s Anthony Ruthey while Cyr shot a round of 80 to tie for fifth place. Putnam County placed fourth with a team with a score of 354, six strokes behind third-place Sterling Newman. The top three teams advance to the sectional from each regional.
Roach, who was pleased with his outing, said, “My long game was pretty good, got some solid shots,” he said. “My irons were really good, too, but my putting was a little off. A few five-footers I could’ve made today, the greens were faster than I anticipated. Other than that, the day was pretty good.”
Playing on his home course didn’t hurt either.
“I’ve been playing this course since I was eight years old,” Roach said. “I knew where to go at every hole, which is why it was a bit disappointing to bogey on a couple.”
Other Putnam County golfers scores in the regional were Luke Carlson (93, 25th), Ian Woitynek and Chris Uzella (106, tied for 49th place), and Luke Olson (117, 59th).
