GALVA — The Putnam County girls golf team placed second at the Galva 1A Regional on Oct. 3 with a score of 356, 30 strokes behind first-place Geneseo (326) and 11 strokes better than third-place Princeton (367).
Kelli Kennedy was the leading Putnam County golfer with a round of 83, placing seventh. Right behind her was teammate Ali Ciucci, who carded an 84, to place eighth. Rylee Liles carded a 90 to place 12th while Madison Keegan had a round of 99 to place 20th. Taryn Grasser placed 44th with a round of 118.
Putnam County coach Chelsi Straughn felt she set a realistic goal for her team to go work toward.
“We knew Geneseo was going to be tough to beat so second place is what our goal was, and the girls played really well,” she said. “Taryn (Grasser) was battling an injury so she was grinding it out, not feeling good at all and stuck it out. The other four (Ali Ciucci, Kelli Kennedy, Rylee Liles, and Madison Keegan) all had their personal bests for the year, so that’s pretty awesome.”
The top three teams and top 10 individuals all advanced to the Pontiac 1A sectional on Oct. 8.
