Junior high baseball
The Putnam County Junior High School’s baseball team’s record was improved to 14-2 with four wins.
PC 6, Fieldcrest 3
Even though Putnam Co Jr gave up three runs in the fifth inning, they still defeated Fieldcrest Middle School Knights 6-3 on Aug. 27. The Pumas opened up scoring in the first inning, when Austin Mattingly grounded out, scoring one run. Jackson McDonald took the win for the Pumas. He went four and a third innings, allowing two runs on one hit and striking out seven. Ryan Hundley threw two and two-thirds innings in relief and recorded the last eight outs to earn the save. PCJH tallied six hits in the game. Andrew Pyszka and Josh Jessen each had three hits.
PC 5, El Paso-Gridley 1
Putnam County snagged a late lead and defeated El Paso-Gridley 5-1 on Aug. 30. The game was tied at one with the Pumas batting in the top of the seventh when Andrew Pyszka homered on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs. Pyszka took the win for Putnam County. He surrendered one run on three hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out 11. Ryan Hundley and Nicholas Currie entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Pyszka and Austin Mattingly each collected two hits to lead the Pumas.
PC 5, Metcalf 2
The Pumas got on the board in the first inning on Aug. 31 en route to a 5-2 win. Troy Petty, was the winning pitcher. He allowed four hits and two runs over six innings, striking out six. Ryan Hundley recorded the last three outs to earn the save. Austin Mattingly led the Pumas with three hits. Andrew Pyszka led the Pumas with three stolen bases.
PC 4 Henry 1
Jackson McDonald was credited with the victory for Putnam County over Henry on Sept. 4, 4-1. He surrendered one run on two hits over six innings, striking out 11. Ryan Hundley recorded the last three outs to earn the save. Josh Jessen went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the team.
