Lady Panthers pick up wins vs. Woodland, DePue
Morgan Hundley had six assists, four kills, two digs and one point Oct. 29 as the No. 11-seeded Putnam County volleyball team lost 25-22, 25-9 to No. 5 Serena in a Class 1A Roanoke-Benson Regional quarterfinal.
Gabbie Smith contributed six assists, six digs, one point and one ace for PC, whose season came to a close.

McKenna Solomon had 11 points, nine digs, three aces and three kills Oct. 25 to help the Lady Panthers to a Tri-County Conference victory in Streator.
Gabbie Smith had 12 assists and four digs for PC (5-4 TCC), while Sophia Harris put down eight kills and recorded a block.
“I really thought we ran an effective offense tonight, and we had a lot of good, hard swings in both sets,” said PC coach Amy Bell. “We made a number of good decisions on tips as well, and like I tell the girls, ‘A kill is recorded the same way whether it’s a tip or it’s slammed down.’
“We played a very smart match, and that (smartness) has developed as the season as went on as far as playing. We have done a very good job of using our strengths to our advantage. I also felt we were aggressive at the net while also hitting or tipping the ball into open areas.”

At Granville, the Raiders defeated the Lady Panthers in two sets in a nonconference match.
Jadyn Pickert pounded out seven kills to lead the Earlville attack. Emma Benson fingerpushed 13 assists. Meg Harness came up with five digs to pace the defense.
