Deer accidents

At 9:15 p.m. on July 27, Erin M. Brown, 27, of Laura struck a deer on Route 18 in Magnolia Township. No injuries were reported, and no citations were issued.

At 9:30 p.m. on July 30, Stephen J. Morine, 23, of Hennepin struck a deer on Route 26 in Hennepin Township. No injuries were reported, and no citations were issued.

At 11:55 a.m. on July 31, Helene D. Lijewski, 80, of LaSalle struck a deer on East Bottom Road in Granville Township. No injuries were reported, and no citations were issued.

At 1:04 a.m. on Aug. 1, Steven L. Dockins, 32, of Granville struck a deer with his motorcycle on Route 71 in Granville Township. No injuries were reported, and no citations were issued.

At 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 2, Tracey A. Busch, 46, of Tonica struck a deer on Route 18 in Magnolia Township. No injuries were reported, and no citations were issued.

At 12 p.m. on Aug. 6, Douglas A. Cockerham, 46, of Austin, Texas, struck a deer on Route 26 in Magnolia Township. No injuries were reported, and no citations were issued.

At 5:25 a.m. on Aug. 7, Christopher M. Leighton, 31, of Hennepin struck a deer on Power Plant Road in Hennepin Township. No injuries were reported, and no citations were issued.

False insurance card

On Aug. 3, Richard A. Westerfield, 45, of Hennepin was issued an additional citation for displaying a false insurance card following a brief investigation into his previous driving suspended arrest on July 30. He was issued a notice to appear and given a Putnam County court date.

Single-vehicle crashes

At 12:26 a.m. on Aug. 3, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash on High Street in Hennepin. The driver, Sean C. Voss, 26, of Hennepin left the roadway on High Street and overturned his vehicle. Voss was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was transported by Putnam County EMS to St. Margaret’s Hospital. The sheriff’s office was also assisted by the Hennepin Fire Department.

At 3:10 p.m. on July 28, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash on Lake Thunderbird Drive in Senachwine Township. The driver, Steve E. Czyz, 55, of Channahon, was charged with improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI .08 or more. Czyz was released on a notice to appear and given a Putnam County court date. Henry Fire and Henry Ambulance assisted at the scene.

At 7:25 p.m. on July 27, Shelby E. Hostetter, 17, of Wenona lost control of her vehicle on Meridian Road in Magnolia Township and overturned several times after leaving the road. Hostetter was transported to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru by Lostant Ambulance and a passenger, Scarlett A. Hostetter, 17, of Wenona, was transported to OSF St. Francis in Peoria by Life Flight helicopter. Putnam County EMS also assisted at the scene. No citations were issued.

Illegal consumption

At 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 3, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office charged Matthew J. Grush, 18, of Hennepin with illegal consumption and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor at the boat docks in Hennepin. A 16-year-old female from Hennepin and a 15-year-old female from Hennepin also were in possession of alcoholic beverages. Their cases will be forwarded to the state’s attorney’s office for juvenile charges at a later date.

Driving suspended

At 4:56 a.m. on July 31, a vehicle driven by Jacob E. Ellers, 29, of Spring Valley slowed for a vehicle ahead of his on Route 89 in Granville Township. A vehicle driven by September L. Stachowiak, 21, of Spring Valley then ran into the rear of the Eller’s vehicle. Stachowiak was charged with driving suspended. No injuries were reported. Stachowiak was released on a notice to appear and given a Putnam County court date.

At 3:10 a.m. on July 30, Richard A. Westerfield Jr., 45, of Hennepin was charged with no valid registration and driving suspended following a traffic stop on Old Route 26 in Hennepin. Westerfield was released on a notice to appear and given a Putnam County court date.
