HENNEPIN — The Illinois Valley Radio Association will hold an Amateur Radio Field Day Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23, at Bassi Memorial Park in Hennepin.
Amateur Radio Field Day is an exercise in emergency preparedness (communications) held every year where amateur radio operators set up in locations that are not normal or ideal. They will need to use generators for power, set up portable antennas and work in uncomfortable conditions to see whether they can communicate reliably. This is to make sure, in case of a disaster, they could provide emergency communications to aid local governments carry on as normal as possible.
