The Putnam County Lady Panthers softball team bookended the first full week of May with a single victory on Monday, May 6, and twin wins on Friday, May 10. It was the final week of the regular season prior to postseason action.
Putnam County 14, Peoria Christian 3: Monday’s win came over Peoria Christian in five-inning run-rule fashion, 14-3.
The Lady Panthers fell behind after one inning, 3-1, then scored the game’s next 13 runs, two in the second, six in the third and five in the fifth, to secure the win, while shutting out Peoria Christian the rest of the way.
Morgan Hundley and Linzee Fay led PC in scoring with three runs each, and Hundley had three of her team’s 11 hits, two of them doubles. Also doubling was Savannah Tucker.
Haley Cioni pitched a complete-game victory.
Putnam County 2-6, Lowpoint-Washburn 1-3: The Lady Panthers picked up 2-1 and 6-3 wins over Lowpoint-Washburn May 10.
Pitcher Haley Cioni held L-W to one run and struck out seven as PC broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh to emerge victorious, 2-1.
Skylar Grevengoed scored both of PC’s runs, collecting three of the team’s five hits in the process.
The other game saw PC jump out to a 4-0 lead after one and pick up two more runs in the fifth to prevail over L-W, which scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Grace Ebel scored two runs to lead Putnam County. Savannah Tucker got the win, going six innings on the mound.
