The Putnam County High School boys baseball team scored a 10-2 win over Midland May 4.
Dan Sabotta pitched a complete game six-hitter over seven innings, striking out four in the process.
The Panthers managed only six hits of their own, but combined with seven errors committed by Midland, were able to score 10 runs, including six runs in the sixth inning to expand a 4-2 lead into a 10-2 final score.
Luke Olson had two hits for PC, Caleb Tonozzi had two RBIs, and Chris Uzella, Olson and Sabotta all scored two runs.
Twin wins over R-B
Putnam County defeated Roanoke-Benson twice on May 3.
Game 1 was a 13-1, 5-inning victory for the Panthers, followed by a 9-6 PC victory in the second game.
Putnam County roared out to a 12-1 lead after four innings in the first game and scored another run in the fifth to wrap up the run-rule win.
Leading the way with three hits for PC was Nolan Whitney, while four teammates rapped out two hits apiece, Luke Carlson, Brayden Holmes, Luke Olson and Caleb Tonozzi. Carlson, Whitney and Tonozzi had three RBIs each.
Jacob Williams was the winning pitcher, scattering seven hits over five innings.
Game 2 started out strong again for PC, which built a 7-0 lead after three innings and had a 9-4 lead going into the seventh, when Roanoke-Benson scored two runs to make things interesting, but the rally fizzled, and PC celebrated a 9-6 win.
Dan Sabotta led PC with three hits, and Ethan Staley had two RBIs in support of winning pitcher Carlson, who gave up two earned runs over six innings for the victory.
PC tops Woodland
In previous action on April 23 and 25, the Panthers beat Streator Woodland twice.
In the first game, host Woodland fought back from a 9-1 deficit with six runs in the fifth inning to close the gap to 9-7, but PC scored three in the sixth for an eventual 12-7 win.
Carlson, Williams and Tonozzi had three hits apiece, Whitney, Holmes, Tonozzi and Jakob Pyszka had two RBIs, and Williams pitched 5.1 innings in the winning effort.
On April 25, PC shut out Woodland, 5-0, behind Carlson’s seven-strikeout gem. Whitney had two hits and scored twice in the win.
