HENRY — Relay For Life is fast approaching and while this year things are going to look a little different, all your favorite aspects of Relay will still be held at this event.
Relay for Life of Marshall and Putnam counties will be hosting a dinner and program from 5 to 9 p.m. in Henry, with great food, entertainment and a mission to raise money to put an end to cancer.
A dinner of fried chicken and spaghetti will be held at the Henry American Legion beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase from team members ahead of the event or at the door the night of the event. This year, you can also purchase tickets online by visiting https://mprelayforlife.ticketspice.com/illuminate-the-park-dinner. Tickets are $10 for an adult, $5 for children ages 3-12 and free for children under 3 years old. Dinner will be served until 7 p.m. Carry-outs are also available.
The popular silent auction will remain a fixture at this year’s event. The silent auction will be open for bidding from 5 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion. Teams will be donating lots of great items for you to bid on. There is sure to be something for everyone.
The April 20 Relay event will also feature music by the band Yesterday’s News. The acoustic/mandolin-bass duo will be playing from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. outside at the Legion. The event will also feature a bounce house and other fun outdoor activities for the whole family in front of the Legion. The road between the Legion and the Park will be closed to provide a great experience for this year’s event. There will be golf carts available for those who need assistance.
At 7:30 p.m., the event will shift to Central Park for the program and ceremony portion of the evening. M-P Relay welcomes Karen Robertson as this year’s honorary survivor. She will be speaking about her cancer journey.
The event will culminate in the luminaria ceremony, a gathering of the community and loved ones to remember those lost to cancer, to celebrate those who have conquered the disease and support those as they continue their fight. After the sun sets, luminaria light up the night, reminding us all why we fight back. Luminarias can be purchased before the event by mailing forms and money to Cindy Stange, 1102 Malibu Drive, Henry, IL 61537. White luminaria bags can be purchased for a $10 donation and gold luminaria bags are available for a $25 donation.
