DIXON — Charles “Joe” Day, 88, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at Heritage Square in Dixon.
Joe was born July 7, 1929, in Peoria, the son of Olen and Elsie (Grizwold) Day. He married Judith Ann Johnson on April 20, 1968, in Dixon. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2010.
Joe was employed at Raynor Garage Doors in Dixon for 25 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon and was a retired member of Carpenters Union Local 790 out of Rock Falls. Joe was a loving, caring and hardworking father. He enjoyed taking pictures and going to tractor shows.
Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Day of Dixon and Sue (Tom) DeMay of Morrison; four sons, Shawn (Angie) Day of Dixon, John Day of Dixon, Michael (Cheryl) Nielsen of Rock Falls and Jeff (Brandi) Nielsen of Rock Falls; one sister, Elizabeth Steinwachs of Texas; two brothers, Ben Day of McNabb and Tom (Dennis) Day of Chicago; one sister-in-law, Elaine Day of LaSalle; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one son, Dennis Nielsen; one brother, David Day; and one sister-in-law, Patti Day.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon with the Rev. Joseph O’Donnell officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
