HENNEPIN — John Vernon Gimbal died Friday, July 28, 2017, at Cabin Livin' Senior Care in Hennepin.
He was born Sept. 17, 1925, to John Gimbal and Mae Mitchell Gimbal in Granville. He married Mary Sullivan on Dec. 22, 1945.
He was a veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired as manager of the McNabb Grain Company.
In retirement, Vern enjoyed riding his motor scooter and rooting for the Putnam County girls softball team.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Gimbal; two daughters, Susan Lyons (Glen Davis) of Joliet and Sharon (Mike) Taylor of McKenzie, Tenn.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Anna Mae Liles; a brother, Max C Gimbal; and a niece.
Military funeral services and burial were held July 29 at the Granville Cemetery, with services provided by the Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel.
